Christopher Sheehan was sadly the first of the brothers to die, on the 27th of December 1915, whilst John Sheehan died on 12th August of 1917.  Both brothers are buried side by side at Danygraig Cemetery.

John was born in 1884, and Christopher was born in 1887. They were sons of Patrick and Catherine Sheehan.

Both Patrick and Catherine are Irish-born.

At the time of the 1891 Census. Catherine and her three children were boarders at the home of Cornelius Harrington, 15 Shore Street.

Catherine, 32, whose marital condition was recorded as widowed.  Her three young children were

John, 7; Sarah, 3; and 4-year-old Christopher all attended school.

A decade later, at the time of the 1901 Census, Catherine had remarried to Michael Dewit.  They were residing at 10 Pontyglasdwr Street.

Michael Dewit, 43, was employed as a Fuel Labourer.  Catherine was 42 years old.

Catherine’s three children also resided at the property.

John, 17, who was employed as a General Labourer; Sarah, 13; and 10-year-old Christopher.

Three lodgers also lived at the address.

Ellen Casey, 23, a Charwoman, 19-year-old general labourer Edward Casey, and 8-year-old Eleanor Casey.

There are no records as to where John and Christopher were at the time of the 1911 Census.

Christopher, who was the first to enlist, enlisted on the 8th of September 1914 and served with the Welsh Regiment, 51st Battalion.

Christopher’s military records have survived.  Christopher was discharged in October 1914, after only 24 days of service, as being declared medically unfit.

Two days after Christmas, 1915, Christopher died in Gorseinon.

John enlisted on the 7th of December 1914 and served with the 6th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. His home address at this time was 5 Lower Strand.

John's military record records that most of his active service was in the United Kingdom, with 50 days of service in France.
