The Berry family were residing at 80 Rodney Street at the
time of the 1891 Census.

Devon-born Richard J., 32, was employed as a General Labourer, and his wife, Annie, was 38 years old. Their children were.
George F. R., 7; Francis C., 3; and 11-month-old Richard E.
Also present at the home was 43-year-old boarder Emily Syer,
who was living by her means.
A decade later, at the time of the 1901 Census, the Berry
family had moved to No.68 Rodney Street.

Richard J., 42, who was a Stationary Engine Driver; Annie, who
was also 42 years old. Their children
were
George F., 17, who was a General Labourer; Richard E., 10;
William L., 8; Hilda A. E., 4, and 2-year-old Thomas H.
The family moved yet again by the time of the 1911 Census,
this time to No. 19 Rodney Street.

Both Richard and Annie are 52 years old, and Richard’s
occupation is recorded as General Labourer.
20-year-old Richard was the eldest child who was present at
the address at the time of the census.
His occupation was recorded as Carter.
His siblings were
William, 18, was employed as a Railway Engine Clerk; Hilda,
14; Thomas, 12; and 9-year-old Reginald, who all attended school.
In April 1911, Richard married Jane Joyce James at St. Mary's
church.

Richard served with the Welsh Regiment, and he died at Redcar Hospital on 28th January 1918. His funeral announcements were published in the South Wales Daily Post. He was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.
