Richard Llewellyn Bailey had returned from leave to join his regiment at Redcar, after he had been suffering from tuberculosis.  He had been the best of health.  The following sadly Richard had been found dead in his bed.  His funeral with a full military honour was at Danygraig Cemetery.  Richard's death and funeral were reported in the Herald of Wales

Richard was born in 1887, was the son of William G. Bailey and Elizabeth Harris, who were married in 1869 at St. James church.

At the time of the 1901 Census, the Bailey family were living at 24 Rhondda Street.

William, 50, was employed as a Shipwright, and Elizabeth was 49 years old.  Their children were

Edith, 22; William J., 20, who was employed as a Book Binder; Richard, 13, was a Messenger Boy.

Also present was visitor Catherine Thomas, 49, who was a domestic worker.

A decade later at the time of the 1911 census. Richard who married the previous year Sarah Elizabeth Glover.

They were both aged 24 years at the time of the census and they were residing at 5 Winston Street, North Road.  Richard was employed as a Fuel Worker.  A son, Richard Llewellyn, had been born that year.

November 1914 Richard enlisted and served with the Royal Army Service Corps.  Richard died 7th January 1919.
