Thomas Shea
Thomas Shea enlisted at the outbreak of the First World War and served with the Munster Regiment.  He was discharged from the army.  He reenlisted in 1916 and saw action in France for 10 months.  Whilst in France, Thomas, who was serving with the Cheshire Regiment, 9th Battalion, became ill and was sent to Press Heath Military Hospital, Shropshire.  It was here that Thomas died on the 13th of April 1918.

Thomas was born in 1886 and was the eldest son of Jeremiah Shea and Ellen Walsh.

The first census, that records Thomas, is the 1901 Census.  The Shea family were residing at 46 Brynmelyn Street.

1901 Census

46-year-old Jeremiah is employed as a Dock Labourer.  Ellen is 41 years old.  their children are

Thomas, 15; Winifred, 7; and Jeremiah, 4, who both attended school.

A decade later, the family is still residing at 46 Brynmelyn Street.

1911 Census

Jeremiah, 56, is still employed as a Dock Labourer.  Ellen is 51 years old.  Their children are

Thomas, 25, who is also employed as a Dock Labourer; Winifred, 17, who is a Dressmaker; Jeremiah John, 14, is an Errand Boy; and Daniel, 9.

The South Wales Daily Post reported his death, and Thomas was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.
