Daniel Ridgway

 Daniel Ridgway was born in 1900; he was the youngest son of Arthur K. Ridgway and Grace Messer.

The 1901 Census, records that the Ridgway family were living at 11 Hoo Street.

1901 Census

44-year-old Copper furnaceman Arthur Ridgway and Grace 39-year-old, were parents of 8 children who were

William G., 20, who also was a Copper furnaceman; Charles, 19, who was recorded as unemployed; Mary, 18; Elizabeth, 15; Robert J., 13; David A., 8; Albert, 4 and 1-year old Daniel.

A decade later, the 1911 Census records that the family were still living at 11 Hoo Street.

1911 Census

54-year-old Arthur was employed as a Labourer and Grace 48-year-old.  The census records that they were parents of 15 children, 6 children had died.

Charles, 29, who was a labourer; Robert, 22, who was a gas stoker; David, 17, who was a labourer; Albert, 14, who was a mill boy, and 11-year-old Daniel who was school.

British Army and Navy Birth, Marriage and Death Records

Daniel who enlisted with the Royal Navy and was ranked as deck hand and served on H.M.S. Victory. At the time of his death, September 1918, Daniel died at the Haslar Naval Hospital, Portsmouth.
