Father and son, both named Jeremiah Driscoll, are buried on the upper slopes of Danygraig Cemetery.

Mary E. Driscoll, mother of Jeremiah, had an In Memoriam published in the South Wales Daily Post, March 1919.

Jeremiah, who was born in 1885, was the son of Jeremiah Driscoll and Ellen Sheehan, who were married in 1876.

At the time of the 1891 Census, the Driscoll family were living at 11 Baptist Well Street.

Irish-born Jeremiah, 35, was employed at the Steel Works as a Pitman. Mary E. was 32 years old.  Their children were.

Dennis, 14, was employed at the Tin Works as a Labourer.  Augustine J., 12; Catherine, 11; Jane, 8; Jeremiah, 6; and Patrick, 4, all attended school.  The youngest children were Mary E., 2, and 2-month-old Joseph.

Also present at the property was 17-year-old boarder William Tebey, who was employed at the Brick Works as a Labourer.

Irish-born Jeremiah Driscoll died in 1900.

At the time of the 1901 census, Mary was living at 23 Caepistyll Street.  She was employed as a General Servant Domestic.  Her children present were

Austin, 22, who was employed at the Docks as a Labourer.  Jeremiah, 16; Patrick, 14, who was an Errand Boy; Mary E., 12; Joseph, 10; Bridget, 8; and Elizabeth, 6, who all attended school.  The youngest son was 3-year-old Timothy.

50-year-old Edward Cashman, who was also a widower and a cousin, resided at the property.

By the time of the 1911 Census, 53-year-old Mary had moved again and lived at 76 Llangyfelach Street.  Mary was employed as a Housekeeper.  The four children present were

Jeremiah, 26, who was a Chargeman at the Steelworks.  Joseph, 20, who was employed at the Steel Works as a Labourer; Elizabeth Ann, 15, who was employed as a Fuse Factory Worker; and Timothy Christopher, 13, who was at school.

The following year, Jeremiah married Mary E. Condry.  They were to have a son, Jeremiah, who was born in 1914.

Days after the outbreak of the First World War, August 1914, Jeremiah enlisted and served with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, 8th Battalion.

On 11th March 1918, Jeremiah died at a Military Hospital.

Mary Driscoll, at the time of the 1921 census, had remarried Jeremiah’s younger brother Patrick.  They were living at 76 Llangyfelach Street

1921 Census

Patrick, 34, was a Lock Labourer and was unemployed.  Mary was 27 years old.

Mary’s eldest son was Jeremiah, 7, who attended school.  She also had a daughter, Mary Ellen, by Patrick, who was 7 months old.

Also present at the property was the sister-in-law, Mary, 22, who undertook Home Duties and the nephew, 1-year-old Timothy Christopher. 

Jeremiah married Mary Woodward.

Jeremiah, who served with the Royal Army Service Corps, died on the 3rd of August 1946.  His funeral announcements were published in the South Wales Daily Post
