David John Davies, who was ranked as an Officers Cook 1st Class, served with the Royal Navy at the Shore Establishment H.M.S. Vivid, died on the 26th of March 1919.  David was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.

David was the youngest child of George Henry Davies and Mary Jane Mainwaring, who were married in 1862 at Bedwellty, Monmouthshire.

At the time of the 1891 Census, George Henry and his family were living at 119 Hill Street, Bedwellty.

1891 Census

George, 24, was employed Steam Engine Fitter.  Mary was 35 years old.  Their children were

George H., 4; Annie J., 3; and 9-month-old David J.  David was born at Rhymney, Monmouthshire.

Also present was William Davies, 63-year-old boarder who was employed as an Engine Driver (Stationary).

George and his family moved to Swansea by the time of the 1901 Census. The family was living at 14 Farm Lane

1901 Census

George, 38, who was employed as a General Labourer Dock.  Mary was 42 years old.  Their children were

George, 14; David, 12; Evelyn, 8; and Robert, 5

Also present were son William Mainwaring, 23, who was employed as Stone Quarryman and Annie, 23, daughter in law and niece Gwennie, 5.

The family were still at no.14 Farm Lane at the time of the 1911 Census.

1911 Census

George, 45, was employed as a Weighting Machine Fitter and Mary aged 54 years old.  Their children were

David, 20, who was a Baker; Evelyn, 18, and 15-year-old Quarryman Stone Robert. 

Also present was 15-year-old niece Hannha Jane Mainwaring.

In 1913, David married Mary Jane Davies

1916, David enlisted with the Royal Navy.

David died from disease,  His address was recorded as 146 Rodney Street
