The South Wales Daily Post published in The Daily Toll on 28th of November, 1918, the announcement of the death of Thomas Cundy, who had died from pneumonia at a hospital in Grimsby. Thomas was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.

Thomas was born in 1881 and was the son of Richard Cundy and Catherine Davies, who were married in 1875.

At the time of the 1891 Census, the Cundy family lived at 15 Wellington Street.

Richard, 40, was a Ship’s Docker, and Catherine was 38 years old.  Their children were

Margaret A., 15; Richard, 13; Mary E., 10; Thomas, 8; Beatrice, 6; and 1-year-old Charles H.

At the time of the 1901 Census, the family still lived at 15 Wellington Street.

Richard, 51, was a General Labourer, and Catherine was 50 years old.  Their children were

Richard, 24, who was employed as a Wood Sawyer; Thomas, 19, who was employed as a Drayman, and Charles, 12. 

Also present at the property was 5-year-old Richard Harris, a nephew.

In 1909, Thomas married Lydia Arnold.  Thomas wasn’t recorded on the 1911 Census.  Lydia and her 1-year-old son, Tom, were living at 2 York Court.

During the First World War, Thomas served with the Royal Naval Reserve. At the time of his death, 24th November 1918, he was ranked as a Trimmer on board H.M.S. Perkin.
