Sidney Albert Smith

 Sidney Albert Smith was born in Windsor, Berkshire, in 1899.  He was the second eldest son of Albert John Smith and Bertha Lily Aldridge, who were married in 1891.

The 1901 Census records the Smith family as residing at 4 Bounty Terrace, Clewer, Berkshire.

Albert, 33, was employed as a Railway Porter.  Bertha is 27 years old.  Their children were

Oswald, 7; Florence S., 5, and 3-year-old Sidney A.

A decade later, the 1911 Census records that the family have moved and are living at 22 Percy Street, Greenfield, Shrewsbury.

Albert, 43, is now a Inspector.  Bertha is 37.  Their children are

17-year-old William who is employed as a Accountants Clerk; Florence, 15, who is a Dressmaker Apprentice; Sydney, 12; Herbert George, 9, and 6-year-old Bertha Lily, who all attend school.

Sidney enlisted and served with the South Wales Borderers; 11th Battalion.  He died on the 19th of May 1918, and was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.

Albert John Smith had another posting with the railways, this time to High Street.
